They’re Just Reloading

It’s essentially true that the Civil War never really ended; when it kicked off in 1861 it was about whether or not the 10th Amendment superseded the power of the central federal government. Later, of course, slavery was piled on top of it because the feds were losing and historians have made it only about slavery ever since.

At its core, however, the war was about self-determination for each of the “some several States” and in that regard little has changed. The war continues… and whenever there is no shooting actually taking place it’s only because one side or the other is reloading.
