[via Gym Lion] < Your brain, its capacity and untapped potential device understanding; for as much as we know there are unspeakable volumes we have yet to discover. Consider this... Meditating Can Physically Restructure the Brain!:
[A] number of recent studies have found that meditation can actually physically restructure the brain. One study put participants through an 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. After 8 weeks of the program, gray matter concentrations in the brain actually increased in the hippocampus, posterior cingulate cortex, the temporo-parietal junction, and the cerebellum in the MBSR group versus the control group. These parts of the brain control memory, learning, self-referential processing, perspective taking and emotions…
I have seen an increasing number of articles over the last year or so that suggest there is a little more to this idea of “mind over matter” then just a catchy little generations – old proverb.
The article referenced here is just one of many examples that point to one study or another indicating a link between meditation and mindfulness and the restorative value these activities provide to both the mind and body.
As a fledgling beginner, I can attest to the fact that there are supreme benefits to activities such as these that I have only just begun to scratch the surface of; it has been shown in many places using a great many varied testing methods that highly experienced and deeply skilled practitioners of mindfulness show incredible advances in their brain functions beyond normal folk like you and I… it should not be underestimated and it should be studied as deeply and widely as research funds can be found to support the activities.
Unleashing the power of the human mind should be a global priority.
